Qualifications:

 

Bachelor’s degree preferred

K-12 public education experience preferred

Drone operator experience preferred

Five or more years’ experience in video production/editing

Excellent attention to detail, sense of visual design and technical knowledge of file sizes, types and video formats

Experience and training in the fundamentals of current video production techniques including computer generated graphics and animation (both 2D and 3D) as well as computer based linear/non-linear editing equipment

Expertise in modern lighting, audio equipment and teleprompter systems

Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve)

Working knowledge of DSLR/mirrorless cameras, audio equipment, and lighting techniques

Strong storytelling, composition, and editing skills

Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends for events

Knowledge of Photoshop, After Effects, Illustrator and DVD Studio Pro or similar applications

Knowledge of web standards for video productions and online posting/streaming

Exposure to the fundamental concepts of public relations

Demonstrated ability to take a project from concept to completion with minimal supervision and direction

Demonstrated creativity in producing videos that meet the expectations of project clients and district administrators           

Ability to function productively as a member of a creative team

Ability to meet established deadlines

Strong interpersonal, customer service and communication skills

Primary Purpose:

 

The Visual Production Technician oversees the District’s communications and public relations efforts through high-quality videography and photography. This role is responsible for capturing, editing, and producing visual content that showcases student, staff and Board achievements, district initiatives, and educational programs. This role is creative, technically skilled, and passionate about telling the district's story through engaging visual media. The position provides direction, coordination, research, execution, production, distribution, management and maintenance of department video assets and productions. The position also develops videos that are in keeping with the district’s brand standards, voice and personality and in compliance with all HIPPA, FERPA and ADA regulations. The role works in the studio, in remote locations, is responsible for post-production (editing and preparing), and may work before or after regular hours for special projects.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Multi-media/video

  1. Collaborate with the School & Community Engagement team on storyboard development, shot lists, and production timelines.
  2. Shoot and produce a variety of video products for broadcasting, compression output, social media distribution, webcasting, and video streaming.
  3. Maintain an organized digital media library, including archiving photos and videos for future use.
  4. Operate and maintain video and photo equipment, including cameras, lighting, microphones, tripods, and editing software
  5. Create and deliver same-day projects, when needed.
  6. Assemble camera, lighting and sound equipment and assist in setting up film shoots on location and press conferences, as necessary.
  7. Assess video needs through working across departments and with various stakeholders to attain desired goals.
  8. Develop feature-length and video segments that can be utilized on the website, via social media, and at events.
  9. Develop district-level video productions from concept to completion, including all necessary scripting, filming, content and overall creative design.
  10. Responsible for all aspects of video editing and formatting.
  11. Apply technical expertise and knowledge to other district-directed projects as well as field technical support and troubleshooting.
  12. Support campus, department and program-specific video solutions for public/stakeholder consumption.
  13. Ensure video production and product are in ADA/accessibility compliance.
  14. Capture subjects in commercial-quality photographs and photojournalistic candid style.
  15. Participate in event planning and community activities that are the responsibility of the School & Community Engagement departments.
  16. Oversee the routine maintenance and periodic upgrade of video production equipment.
  17. Assist department with management of Katy ISD website as needed.
  18. Maintain knowledge and adherence to audio, video, web and accessibility standards.
  19. Maintain a professional level of confidentiality regarding all district matters.
  20. Attend committee meetings and community special events as needed.
  21. Remain current regarding trends, new technologies and software for video production and distribution.
  22. Other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used:

 

Professional video and audio recording equipment (both studio and ENG), computer, professional video and audio editing equipment, lighting equipment, phone, and copier

 

Working Conditions:

 

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent district-wide travel; occasionally prolonged and irregular hours. Lifting of related equipment required.
