Spray is a rural community located on the John Day River, with spectacular natural beauty and abundant wildlife. The environment lends itself to various activities such as camping, fishing, hunting backpacking and rafting. Spray is located two hours from Redmond and 90 minutes from John Day. Portland is four hours away. The John Day National Monument is about an hour’s drive. This area is rich in natural history. The teaching calendar is 148 student contact days, 7 periods, 4 days a week. There are 5 professional days in the year.

Job Purpose Statement
The job of – CTE Teacher is designed for the purpose/s of developing students’ academic and interpersonal skills through academic courses of study and implementing District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals. The focus of this position is to provide career and technical education around AG Science, Drone Piloting and Navigation, and Flight Ground School Instruction.
Job Qualifications & Licensure:
- BA/BS in aligned field of study to the position
- Valid TSPC endorsements, or ability to obtain prior to position start date.
- Career & Technical Education endorsement in the Flight Training, Done Navigation, and AG Science. 2000 hours of industry experience to apply towards attaining a CTE endorsement prior to position start date.
- Demonstrated ability to relate positively with students, teachers, administrators, employers, parents, and the community

- Provide a variety of classroom techniques and methods.
- Promote high levels of achievement in relation to individual student abilities.
- Background in flight and drone programing.
- Use techniques and methodologies appropriate to student abilities.
- Organize instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes.
- Employ teaching strategies congruent with planned student outcomes.
- Select teaching strategies emphasizing student involvement.
- Knowledge of drone industry, drone flight, and flight mapping software as utilized in commercial applications.
- Up-to-date knowledge and technical skills required to operate and fly drones in industry applications.
- Knowledge of drone flight maintenance and management.
- Knowledge of and skill in the use of database, Internet, spreadsheet, word processing, and related applications.
Essential Job Functions
- Instructs and prepares students for appropriate entry-level flight navigation and AG Science – Animal Husbandry.
- Oversee District FFA Program and Projects
- Instructs students on the basic skills of Aviation Ground School and Animal Husbandry.
- Demonstrate and instruct students in basic flight of drones to include manual flight and flight mapping software leading to the attainment of FAA CFR 14 Part 107 certificate leading to commercial pilot in the drone industry.
- Develop and implement instructional plans and activities in troubleshooting drone hardware, drone flight regulations and industry operations, and applications for manual and autonomous flight as well as understanding drone mapping software.
- Develop relationships with local industry to support entrepreneurship, fleet management, and drone mapping.
- Create and plan effective curriculum-based projects and activities correlated with drone industry pilot certifications and FAA guidelines as supported by the course materials.
- Perform routine maintenance of equipment and tools used in the program.
