What is the SolarCorps Fellowship Program…

GRID Alternatives’ SolarCorps Fellowship Program is an opportunity for highly motivated and enthusiastic community members to join GRID Alternatives for an 11-month paid service term. In this position, you’ll gain valuable experience in the renewable energy and non-profit industries while making significant contributions to communities most impacted by environmental and economic injustice!

The Opportunity…
We are seeking a full-time SolarCorps Workforce Development Fellow to engage with the workforce team to support GRID’s workforce development initiatives. Members are trained and supervised by GRID's regional workforce development leads to provide employability skills and job opportunities in solar.  Members will help to recruit trainees and provide employment readiness skills training and job placement support to un- and underemployed individuals from underserved communities. Members will facilitate job training and placement support in the renewable energy field.  As these partners gain education and experience, the members also gain skills in professional relationship building, facilitation, logistics, and program management that will be transferable within the renewable energy, education, and nonprofit industries.

Day to day responsibilities will include:
  • Assist in facilitation of solar and clean energy lessons, workshops, and installations for trainees and youth
  • Help recruit, select, and onboard job trainees
  • Support scheduling, coordination, and communication between trainees, staff, and partners
  • Build and maintain partnerships with local job training organizations, workforce development partners, and the general public 
  • Attend local events to promote community awareness of GRID’s training programs
  • Network with solar industry employers
  • Update data to track workforce development efforts in organization data management system(s)
  • Coordinate volunteers for participants on GRID Alternatives solar installation projects including recruiting participants, giving orientation and organizing volunteer days 

What you need to bring to this role…
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • 11-month commitment     
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively
  • Comfortable being part of a team
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • Interest and enthusiasm for renewable energy, community development, and helping families and communities in need.
  • Availability for a Mid-Year weeklong Career Readiness Retreat in Oakland, CA

It would be great if you also had…
  • Clean, valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
 

Let's Talk Money...

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Hourly pay of $21.40 per hour, plus the benefits listed below. Fellows who complete 1700 hours with GRID and complete their contracted term of service will be eligible for a cash end of term award (amount to be determined).

Where you will sit & the places you may go...

This position may require 10%-25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects. Availability to work nights and weekends may be required.

 

GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
