What is the SolarCorps Fellowship Program…

GRID Alternatives’ SolarCorps Fellowship Program is an opportunity for highly motivated and enthusiastic community members to join GRID Alternatives for an 11-month paid service term. In this position, you’ll gain valuable experience in the renewable energy and non-profit industries while making significant contributions to communities most impacted by environmental and economic injustice!

SolarCorps Community Outreach Fellow (Oakland, CA)

The Opportunity…
We are seeking a full-time SolarCorps Outreach Fellow to engage with the outreach team and help implement outreach strategy to increase the number of income-qualified clients served in regional counties. Outreach SolarCorps members will educate underserved communities impacted by environmental and economic injustice about the benefits and cost-savings of renewable energy. Members with this experience go on to careers in solar sales, community engagement, and other related roles.
  • Help promote community awareness of GRID Alternatives’ services and mission by researching, attending and potentially speaking at community meetings and other events
  • Assist and shadow Outreach Coordinators in client application process and eventually be able to in-take multiple applications per month
  • Assist and shadow Outreach Coordinators in homeowner trainings and eventually be able to conduct training for homeowners once their systems are installed
  • Help create easy-to-read materials that educate homeowners on energy efficiency
  • Help research potential partnerships with affordable housing developers, local government agencies, and community-based organizations in order to more effectively identify, encourage, and serve income qualified clients
  • Support the Outreach Ops department with the aspects of the lead management process including prescreening, marketing, campaign management and coordination, lead and project distribution, and outreach in target communities

What you need to bring to this role…
  • Must be 18 years or older    
  • 11-month commitment.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to represent GRID Alternatives positively
  • Comfortable being part of a team
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and decision-making skills
  • Strong computer skills
  • After starting with GRID, must successfully register and maintain a Home Improvement Salesperson registration with the Contractors State License Board
  • Interest and enthusiasm for renewable energy, community development, and helping families and communities in need.
  • Has own transportation to attend local events in the Bay Area

It would be great if you also had…
  • Clean, valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Bilingual in Spanish or Chinese
 

Let's Talk Money...

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Hourly pay of $21.40 per hour, plus the benefits listed below. Fellows who complete 1700 hours with GRID and complete their contracted term of service will be eligible for a cash end of term award (amount to be determined).

Where you will sit & the places you may go...

This position may require 10%-25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects. Availability to work nights and weekends may be required.

 

GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
