About the Role:
The Solar Service and Commissioning Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the successful installation and operation of solar energy systems. This position involves conducting thorough inspections, testing, and commissioning of solar installations to guarantee optimal performance and compliance with industry standards. The technician will also be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving any issues that arise during the commissioning process. By providing exceptional service and technical expertise, the technician will contribute to the overall efficiency and reliability of solar energy solutions. Ultimately, this role supports the company's mission to promote sustainable energy practices and enhance customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-commissioning inspections and assessments of solar energy systems.
- Perform testing and troubleshooting of solar panels, inverters, and other system components.
- Commission solar installations to ensure they meet performance and safety standards.
- Provide technical support and training to customers on system operation and maintenance.
- Document all service activities and maintain accurate records of inspections and repairs.
- Work safely utilizing needed PPE correctly at all times.
- Regular operation of company vehicle/ local travel to customer home or job site.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in solar energy technology or a related field.
- Experience in electrical systems and troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with local and national electrical codes.
- Clean MVR (motor vehicle record) allowing operation of a company vehicle.

Driving Requirement:
- This position requires regular operation of a company vehicle or driving on company business. Employment is contingent upon maintaining a valid driver’s license and passing an initial and ongoing review of your Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) in accordance with Mars Energy Group’s MVR Monitoring Policy, outlined below.
Skills/ Knowledge/ Abilities:
- Strong understanding of electrical systems and the ability to troubleshoot complex issues effectively.
- Attention to detail is essential, as the technician must ensure that all installations meet safety and performance standards.
- Communication skills are important, as the technician will interact with customers and provide training on system operation.
- Familiarity with industry/ building codes, enhancing the ability to navigate regulatory requirements efficiently.
- Ability to push, pull, lift up to 50 lbs. consistently throughout the day.
- Ability to work in small, tight, or confined spaces.
- Ability to work safely on roofs of different pitch and up to 2 story heights.
- Ability to safely and correctly use calibration and electrical testing equipment.
- Ability to operate motor vehicle regularly.

Special Requirements - Motor Vehicle Record (MVR):
All employees required to drive for company purposes must have their Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) reviewed and monitored.
MVR review confirms:
- A valid driver’s license is held.
- Driving history meets Mars Energy Group standards.
Disqualifying Infractions:
- DUI/DWI within the past 10 years or multiple convictions.
- Reckless or negligent driving conviction within the past 5 years.
- Driving with a suspended, revoked, or expired license.
- Hit-and-run offense.
- Conviction for vehicular manslaughter or homicide.
- Use of a vehicle in the commission of a felony.
- More than 3 moving violations in the past 3 years.
- More than 2 at-fault accidents in the past 3 years.
- Failure to report an accident involving a company vehicle.
- Accumulation of 2+ DMV points within the previous 12 months.
Employee Consent & Certification:
- Employees and applicants in driving-required roles must sign consent for MVR checks.
- Authorizes Mars Energy Group to obtain and monitor driving records for hiring and ongoing employment.
- Acknowledges agreement to comply with the company’s Driving & Vehicle Policy.
