RF Electrical Engineering Intern – MMIC Switch Thermal Analysis and simulation

Role Overview:

In MACOM’s Diode Business Line, we design and test Hybrids and MMICs for aerospace and defense, test and measurement, cellular/5G, medical, space/hi-rel, automotive and other wireless applications. You will be involved in one or more of the following:

  • Assist in the design, layout and/or testing of new control circuits for microwave and millimeter-wave applications based on Si and GaAs technologies.
  • Work with products such as switches, limiters, digital and analog phase shifters, digital and analog attenuators, detectors, frequency multipliers, mixers, modulators/demodulators and multi-function Hybrids and MMICs. 
  • Gain experience with of a variety of microwave measurements which include but are not limited to S-Parameters, IP3/TOI, compression/limiting, harmonics, DC and/or RF continuous and pulse power, noise figure, switching speed, conversion loss/gain, etc.
  • Work with our package and assembly teams on new and more cost-effective packaging and assembly methods.
  • Help design evaluation boards and characterization fixtures, perform measurements, and process evaluation data against the product development goals.  

Qualifications:

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree in electronic engineering.
  • Interest in microwave Hybrid and/or MMIC products, and microwave control circuit architectures.
  • Interest in the design of microwave evaluation boards including both electrical and thermal aspects.
  • Some experience with modern microwave simulation tools such as ADS or AWR, or device and/or process modeling tools (TCAD, Silvaco, etc) is a plus.
  • Understanding of EM simulations (Momentum, EmPro, HFSS, etc) and/or Thermal simulation (Ansys or similar) is also a plus.
  • Understanding of the Smith Chart and s-parameters is desirable.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or other drawing packages is helpful
  • This position requires US citizenship or permanent resident status.
