Job Description
The Project Originator serves as a trusted guide through the complex renewable energy adoption process—making the customer the hero of their sustainability journey. This sales-focused role centers on advancing commercial solar PV, battery storage, and EV charging opportunities from initial interest through executed agreements.
This position emphasizes customer engagement, proposal development, and deal management. The Project Originator will analyze potential sites (rooftop, carport, and parking lot), craft tailored proposals and manage the commercial negotiation process in close coordination with internal teams.
The ideal candidate will build and nurture relationships with commercial real estate stakeholders, clearly articulate the value of renewable energy solutions, and guide opportunities through a structured sales process to close.
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and qualify commercial properties suitable for solar PV installations, battery storage, and EV charging infrastructure
- Research and target commercial real estate ownership groups to build a pipeline of potential projects
- Conduct outbound sales activities including cold calling, email campaigns, and networking events
- Position yourself as a trusted advisor, guiding clients through the complexities of renewable energy adoption
- Make the customer the hero by empowering them to achieve their sustainability and financial goals
- Schedule and lead presentations with property owners, executives, and facility managers
- Perform preliminary site assessments to determine project feasibility
- Collaborate with technical teams to develop customized solutions for each property
Qualifications & Skills
- 3+ years of B2B sales experience, preferably in renewable energy, commercial real estate, or related industries
- Demonstrated track record of successfully closing complex sales with multiple stakeholders
- Strong understanding of commercial solar PV systems, energy storage solutions, and/or EV charging infrastructure (or ability to quickly learn technical concepts)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical concepts for clients
- Consultative sales approach that positions the client as the hero and you as their trusted guide
- Experience with commercial real estate ownership structures and decision processes - Proficiency with CRM systems and sales tracking tools Outstanding presentation and negotiation abilities
- Basic understanding of financial concepts related to solar projects (ROI, tax incentives, depreciation)
- Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in Business, Marketing, Engineering, or a related field
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for site visits
Work Location
- Hybrid – In-person collaboration at our Dana Point, CA office 2-3 days per week, with flexibility to work remotely when not meeting clients. Regular travel within Orange County and surrounding areas for client meetings and site visits is required.
