Job Summary: The Professional Surveyor is responsible for conducting land surveys and providing accurate data and reports to support engineering, construction, and legal requirements. This position ensures the precise measurement and mapping of land features, boundaries, elevations, and infrastructure locations. The role plays a vital part in construction project planning and execution by ensuring survey data aligns with project specifications, legal standards, and safety regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct field survey crews, providing technical guidance and task assignments.
Ensure crew members understand daily goals and adhere to safety protocols.
Oversee quality of collected data and fieldwork accuracy.
Train and mentor junior survey staff on industry standards, equipment use, and best practices.
Evaluate team performance and report progress to leadership.
Duties/ Responsibilities:
Conduct boundary, topographic, construction, and as-built surveys for residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects.
Operate and maintain survey equipment including GPS, total stations, levels, and data collectors.
Interpret construction plans, engineering drawings, and legal descriptions.
Establish accurate control points and benchmarks for construction layout and site development.
Collect and process data using field-to-finish workflows, ensuring accurate mapping and documentation.
Coordinate closely with engineers, superintendents, and project managers to provide timely survey data for field operations.
Prepare detailed field notes, sketches, plats, and legal descriptions.
Perform quality checks on survey deliverables and maintain compliance with project specifications and applicable laws.
Monitor and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
Maintain updated knowledge of surveying technology, methods, and regulations.
Other duties as assigned.
Education/Certifications/Licenses
Education: Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred
Licenses:
Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required or ability to obtain
Valid Driver’s License
OSHA 30 or ability to obtain
Experience
3–7 years of experience in land surveying, including boundary, construction layout, and topographic surveying
Prior field crew leadership preferred
Experience with survey software (e.g., Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, AutoCAD)
Experience working on active construction sites and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams
Required Skills/Abilities
Advanced knowledge of survey principles, methods, and equipment
Skilled in GPS, robotic total stations, and digital levels
Ability to interpret site plans, legal documents, and construction drawings
Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize tasks under deadlines
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Familiarity with local, state, and federal land survey regulations
Proficient in preparing plats, legal descriptions, and technical documentation
Strong organizational and time management abilities

Work primarily in a warehouse environment, occasionally outdoors for field support
