Job Description Summary

Vernova Purpose

GE Vernova is accelerating the path to more reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy, while helping our customers power economies and deliver the electricity that is vital to health, safety, security, and improved quality of life. Are you excited at the opportunity to electrify and decarbonize the world?

What impact you’ll make

As a member of the HA Airfoil Thermal Design team, you will be an active contributor to the cooling and sealing design of hot gas path components for our fleet of HA-class heavy duty gas turbine engines. This scope includes detailed thermal analyses and cooling flow analyses to optimize designs to meet design constraints. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure successful program execution across the full life cycle of the product including introducing new designs, engine validation tests, and issue resolutions for the customer fleet.

Job Description

What you’ll do

  • Design and analyze the thermal/fluid aspects of heavy-duty gas turbine hot gas path components under the direct guidance of a technical leader while demonstrating autonomy in problem solving.  You will be expected to work on both turbine blades (rotating) and turbine nozzles/shrouds (stationary) as needed to support our projects, but this current role is primarily aligned with turbine blades.
  • Perform thermal and flow analyses using GE Vernova’s suite of in-house tools (e.g., CalideNG and Flow Simulator), as well as commercial tools for CFD or FEA.
  • Ensure designs and methods adhere to established GE Vernova design practices and design templates.
  • Execute gas turbine design activities from conceptual design through to detailed design, and support related manufacturing and repair activities.
  • Contribute to component lab testing and gas turbine engine testing including test planning, test execution and monitoring, and post-test validation analyses.
  • Support installed fleet by addressing manufacturing deviations, product cost out efforts, and customer issue root cause analyses as needed.
  • Collaborate with performance, aerodynamic, mechanical, and other cross functional teams to ensure successful program execution while advocating for improved engine performance.
  • Communicate and document design decisions and analysis results, including design reviews with team members and leadership.
  • This role is in a hybrid work environment that expects a minimum of 2 days per week in the physical office on the GE Vernova campus in Greenville, SC, unless a flexible work arrangement is approved.

What you’ll bring (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline (Mechanical, Aerospace or comparable)
  • Minimum 4 years of relevant engineering industry experience
  • This role requires use of technical data subject to U.S. government export control restrictions, and this posting is only for U.S. persons including U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, and protected individuals (e.g., certain refugees and asylees). GE Vernova will require proof of status prior to employment.

What will make you stand out

  • At least 3 years of gas turbine design experience
  • Advanced degree in relevant engineering discipline
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with NX, Ansys, and CFD tools
  • Understanding of internal GE Vernova business processes
  • Demonstrated understanding of heat transfer design methods, gas turbine systems, and aerodynamics
  • Demonstrated abilities to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams and to understand the needs of internal and external customers
