General Superintendent – Solar Construction

MARS Energy Solutions is seeking an experienced General Superintendent to lead field operations on commercial-scale public works solar projects. This role oversees multiple job sites and ensures projects are completed safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining high construction quality standards.

Job Summary

The General Superintendent is the senior field leader responsible for managing solar construction projects from pre-construction through completion. This role leads field crews, coordinates with project management, ensures safety and code compliance, and serves as the primary authority for construction execution in the field.

Key Responsibilities

• Travel to job sites throughout Northern California (100%)
• Oversee multiple Public Works and/ or Commercial solar construction projects
• Work hands-on with installation teams as needed
• Assign and prioritize work to meet schedule, safety, and budget goals
• Serve as the main point of contact between field crews, project management, utilities, and customers
• Ensure work follows construction drawings, specs, and applicable codes (NEC, OSHA, UBC)
• Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, quality, and safety
• Recruit, train, and supervise field personnel including apprentices
• Review and approve crew payroll
• Ensure completion of daily reports, JHAs, and tailgate meeting documentation
• Enforce safety standards and support required safety training
• Track labor, materials, and schedules to identify potential cost or timeline issues
• Coordinate with project managers to resolve field issues
• Maintain required project documentation and closeout materials
• Maintain regular attendance and work safely at all times
• Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Minimum 7 years construction field experience, including 4+ years as a superintendent or senior supervisor required
• Journeyman or Master Electrician license required
• Experience with commercial solar projects required
• Experience with underground civil construction strongly preferred
• Experience with large commercial battery systems strongly preferred
• Must have reliable transportation until company vehicle is issued (typically within 3–4 weeks)
• OSHA 30 certification required (or obtained within 90 days)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong understanding of construction sequencing, manpower planning, and productivity
• Ability to pass background check and MVR
• Experience with public works projects and civil construction
• Familiarity with construction software (Procore, MS Project, or similar)
• Strong budget tracking, forecasting, and cost control
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Advanced knowledge of NEC, OSHA, and construction safety standards

Equipment Used

Computer/ laptop, phone, copier, hand tools, power tools, heavy equipment, standard electrical equipment, and required PPE.

Physical Requirements

• Operate motor vehicle regularly
• Correct use of PPE
• Lift/carry/pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally
• Climb, kneel, crawl, crouch, and reach as needed
• Operate hand and power tools
• Work at elevated heights in various weather conditions
