Job Title: Field Surveyor – Telecommunications (OSP)

Job Summary:

The Field Surveyor is responsible for collecting accurate field data to support the design and construction of telecommunications infrastructure, including fiber optic networks. This role involves surveying aerial and underground routes, documenting field conditions, and ensuring all data is properly captured for engineering, mapping, and permitting purposes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct field surveys and route walks for proposed fiber optic installations (aerial and underground)
  • Collect and document data related to utility poles, underground pathways, conduits, and right-of-way conditions
  • Perform pre-walks, site audits, and bid walks to assess project feasibility
  • Measure distances and capture spatial relationships using measuring tools and survey equipment
  • Record detailed field notes, sketches, and photos for engineering and permitting teams
  • Identify potential construction challenges, safety risks, and permitting requirements
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and permitting teams to ensure accurate project design
  • Ensure all work complies with company standards and local regulations
  • Travel to various job sites and work in outdoor environments

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience:

  • 1+ year of field surveying, telecom, construction, or utility experience preferred
  • Experience with fiber optic (OSP) projects is a plus

Required Skills:

  • Ability to read and interpret maps, schematics, and construction drawings
  • Strong attention to detail with accurate data collection skills
  • Basic knowledge of aerial and underground utility infrastructure
  • Proficiency using measuring tools, GPS devices, or survey equipment
  • Strong communication and organizational skills

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to walk 3–5+ miles per day in various terrain and weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50–70 lbs as needed
  • Comfortable working outdoors and at heights if required

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with FTTH, FTTX, or OSP design
  • Experience with GIS or mapping software
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record

Work Environment:

  • Field-based role with travel to active construction or survey sites
  • Exposure to various weather conditions and outdoor elements
  • May require flexible hours depending on project needs
