Position Overview

The Drone Department Director oversees all aspects of drone operations within the organization, ensuring compliance with regulations, managing teams, and optimizing drone technology for business objectives. This role involves development strategies, coordinating with stakeholders, and staying updated on industry advancements. He leads teams of pilots and support staff, manages flight operations, and ensures the safe and efficient use of drone technology. This is a hybrid position. The office is located in Land O Lakes, FL. The Drone Department Director reports to both the President of the Company and the Executive Vice President of the Technology Division.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning: Developing and implementing operational strategies for drone deployment, including flight operations, maintenance, and resource allocation.

Compliance and Safety: Ensuring all drone operations adhere to FAA regulations, company safety protocols and other relevant guidelines.

Team Management: Leading and mentoring drone pilots, technicians, and other support staff, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Budgeting and Financial Management: Developing and managing the department’s budget, monitoring expenses, and ensuring efficient use of resources.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Collaborating with various internal departments to integrate drone operations into the company’s workflow.

Technology Management: Overseeing drone maintenance, upgrades, and integration of new drone technologies:

Regulatory Compliance: Staying informed about changes in drone regulations and ensuring the organization’s operations remain compliant.

Performance Monitoring: Tracking key performance indicators related to drone operations, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.

Risk Management: Identifying the mitigating potential risks associated with drone operations, including safety hazards and regulatory violations.

Innovation and Improvement: Driving innovation in drone operations, exploring new applications, and optimizing existing processes.

QUALIFICAITONS

Experience: Proven experience in drone operations, including flight operations, maintenance, and regulatory compliance.

Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and guide a team.

Technical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of drone technology, including hardware, software, and relevant regulations.

Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders at all levels.

Problem Solving: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to clarify and resolve issues related to drone operations.

FAA Regulations: In-depth knowledge of FAA regulations, including Part 107 and Part 91, and experience working with aviation authorities.

Project Management: Experience in project management, including planning, execution, and monitoring of drone-related projects.

Budget Management: Experience in budgeting and financial management for a department or program.

In addition to the core responsibilities, they may also be involved in:

Business Development: Identifying new opportunities for drone applications and expanding the organization’s drone-related business.

Public Relations: Representing the organization in public forums and providing the benefits of drone technology.
