Position Summary and Overview 

The Director of 412 Squash serves as the pivotal force behind The Spence School’s public-facing squash program, blending strategic vision with operational prowess to foster excellence and drive success. This role involves a broad spectrum of duties, from managing squash programs and coordinating events to developing marketing strategies and leading teams. Strong leadership, an in-depth understanding of sports management, and a commitment to promoting athletic integrity are essential qualities of this position. This role reports to Spence’s Chief Financial and Operating Officer.

Qualifications: 

  • Experience in managing staff scheduling and training
  • Experience and success in delivering excellent customer service, executing high operational standards, leadership, and promoting a positive environment
  • Action-oriented personality with a 'get it done' attitude and strong focus on efficiency
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple tasks
  • 5-10 years of sports management leadership experience


Qualifications

Responsibilities:

  • Financial Management and Budgeting
    • Collaborate with the CFO to manage data-driven budgets, monitor real-time fiscal performance, and execute strategic financial plans that optimize the facility’s operational efficiency and long-term profitability.
    • Design and implement a multi-tiered pricing strategy for seasonal programs and yearly memberships
    • Develop a competitive, tiered compensation structure for squash professionals
  • Facilities Operations & Management
    • Coordinate the daily operations and management of a nine-court squash facility
    • Data Entry of client court rentals, clinics and lessons
    • Create client proposals (clinics and/or lessons for both juniors & adults)
    • Create department policies and procedures for all areas and staff members
    • Create & develop relationships with prospective members and players
    • Provide customer service, problem solving, tours for new prospective students and players
    • Hiring, training and developing the Operations Team
    • Oversee preventative maintenance; capital improvements to 9-court squash facility
    • Vendor Contract and Procurement Management
    • Website content creation and management
  • Programming & Scheduling
    • Build programming for each season in reservation software (PlayByPoint)
    • Collaborate with Head Squash Coach to create program offerings for each season
    • Work closely with Spence’s Athletic Director to coordinate middle school and varsity squash schedules
    • Manage all court rentals to other institutions
  • Personnel
    • Manage a team of Site Monitors, Operations Coordinators, Head Squash Coach and a roster of independent squash coaches
    • Provide necessary operational support to every department as needed
    • Onboarding and offboarding of all staff members and coaches
  • Sales
    • Strategic partnership with nonprofit sports organizations for youth events
    • Private corporate groups
  • Work closely with external partners
    • Corporations for Private Events: pitch, sell, implement & execute private squash events
    • Local Private Schools (LS,MS,US): school squash court rentals; billing, invoicing, scheduling
    • Local Squash Clubs: community outreach to partner on seasonal junior and/or adult events
    • NY Squash (adult league): coordinate participation and court use for an adult league for 412 Squash members

Requirements:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Being customer service-oriented with previous experience in customer service and education is a plus
  • Capacity to multitask
  • Be a collaborative team member eager to learn and grow professionally
  • Be willing to attend meetings and assist with special events as needed
  • Must possess current CPR / FIRST AID certifications or must be willing to obtain them within a specified timeframe
  • Complete sexual harassment and mandated reporter trainings
  • Successfully pass a background check and provide proof of citizenship or legal status
