ARC - Persuasive Writing Lab Coach

SUMMARY:

The Persuasive Writing Lab Coach will supervise a small cohort of students in a supplementary lab for the ENGL 120C Persuasive Writing course. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in writing, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping students improve their writing abilities. Responsibilities include grading papers, providing constructive feedback, leading small group discussions, and assisting the lead writing professor. The successful applicant will be organized, patient, and able to explain complex writing concepts in clear, accessible terms. This position offers valuable experience for those pursuing careers in education or writing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Deliver pre-written curriculum to students
• Provide one-on-one and small group writing assistance to students in a lab setting
• Review and offer feedback on various types of academic writing
• Help students improve their writing skills and processes
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, progress reports, grades, etc.
• Update Canvas page and modules
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development

REQUIRED DATES:

• Writing labs are 1-unit courses offered each academic semester.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

• Current student enrolled at Vanguard University in good standing.
• Vibrant belief in Jesus Christ with ample evidence of personal discipleship.
• Preferred Major/Minor: English/History/Poly Science
• Maintain minimum grade point average of 3.8 each term.
• Demonstrated commitment as a team player to support and collaborate with faculty, staff, peers, and external constituents, as well as the initiative and ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills that will result in effective collaboration.

Compensation:

This position is 3-5 hours per week at a rate of $17 per hour.
