GRID Alternatives’ SolarCorps Fellowship Program is an opportunity for highly motivated and enthusiastic community members to join GRID Alternatives for an 11-month paid service term. In this position, you’ll gain valuable experience in the renewable energy and non-profit industries while making significant contributions to communities most impacted by environmental and economic injustice!

SolarCorps Storytelling and Communications Fellow (Fresno, CA)
 
The Opportunity…
We are seeking a full-time SolarCorps Storytelling and Communications Fellow to support GRID’s brand promotion through storytelling on digital and traditional media channels. Fellows will receive training and supervision from GRID Alternatives' staff. They will gain a broad range of skills and experience to qualify for a variety of renewable energy and nonprofit careers while helping underserved families receive solar services from GRID Alternatives.

The SolarCorps Storytelling and Communications Fellow will, in collaboration with the GRID Alternatives Central Valley Communications Manager, develop, grow, and organize GRID’s story bank, highlighting the diversity of the people and communities GRID works with and demonstrating the breadth of the programmatic and regional work GRID does. They will also support our efforts related to our policy work, media outreach, and media and advocacy training. 
  • Develop and maintain high-quality written and visual content for GRID’s digital channels.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager to create and promote content for social media, website, and email.
  • Organize and maintain a comprehensive story bank for GRID staff to access and use externally.
  • Conduct interviews of GRID staff, trainees, clients, and partners to promote GRID’s storytelling.
  • Support the Communications Manager in creating targeted media lists for distribution of GRID press releases.
  • Support regional communications media outreach efforts by creating regional media lists.
  • Collaborate with the Communications Manager in providing internal and external media and advocacy training for GRID leadership and GRID’s clients and trainees.
  • Collaborate with the GRID Alternatives Central Valley staff on organizational communications strategy.
  • Actively participate in GRID’s equity, inclusion, and diversity work.
  • Availability for a Mid-year Professional Development Retreat in Oakland, CA

What you need to bring to this role…
  • 11-month commitment and complete 1700 hours of service
  • To be eligible for AmeriCorps, applicants must be a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the United States.
  • Excellent storytelling abilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment 
  • Demonstrated skill in writing and verbal communication
  • Interest in clean energy policy
  • When working remotely, you must have access to reliable internet. GRID will provide a laptop, charger, and headset when remote working is required.

It would be great if you also had… 
  • Demonstrated skill in content production, including video, photography, and written materials such as blogs and newsletters.  
  • Experience in digital communications, ideally in a nonprofit and/or renewable energy/environment 
  • Experience in media relations
  • Experience in advocacy

Let's Talk Money...

This is a full-time position with a stipend pay of $40,800 over 11 months (Approx $21.40.hr). Members who complete 1700 hours of service with GRID and complete their contracted term of service will be eligible for the Segal Americorps Education Award of $10,000 upon successful completion of fellowship

Where you will sit & the places you may go...

This position may require 10%-25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects. Availability to work nights and weekends may be required.

 

GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
