The University of Austin seeks a dynamic videographer and editor to champion the UATX brand. You’ll capture and share the energy of our campus community, while educating and growing audiences (prospective students, donors, staff). You'll be responsible for creating compelling video content across all formats—from quick-turnaround social media clips to polished long-form pieces for YouTube (lectures, podcasts).
What You'll Do:
Document daily campus life with an eye for storytelling opportunities. You'll roam campus identifying moments worth capturing—whether it's a spontaneous debate in the commons, a professor's lecture that needs to reach a wider audience, or students collaborating on projects. This role requires someone who thinks like a producer, constantly asking "what should we be filming?" and taking initiative to make it happen.
Produce content for multiple platforms. You'll edit everything from 15-second reels to 60-minute lectures, adapting your approach based on the platform and audience. Fast turnaround is essential—you should be able to shoot something in the morning and have it live on social media that afternoon when timing matters.
Develop original concepts and series. Beyond capturing what's happening, you'll pitch and execute recurring video ideas that showcase what makes UATX unique. Think creatively about how to translate our academic mission into engaging visual content.
What You'll Bring:
Strong technical skills across the full production pipeline—camera operation, lighting, sound, and editing in Adobe Premiere (or similar).
Exceptional collaboration skills and great attitude. This role requires constant collaboration with UATX’s Communications team, faculty, staff, students, and VIP guests. You’ll report to the editor-in-chief, working with a small team to develop mission-oriented, engaging videos. You’re more than capable of filming solo and troubleshooting problems on the fly, but you also thrive in group projects.
Genuine enthusiasm for UATX’s academic mission to cultivate a new elite that serves America.
An intuitive sense for what makes content work on different platforms. You understand the difference between a TikTok hook and a YouTube intro, and you know when a story needs 30 seconds versus 10 minutes.
Speed without sacrificing quality. You can turn around polished edits quickly while maintaining high production values.
You see edits as an opportunity to do great work. You embrace suggestions, and you implement requested edits carefully. You have a strong eye for detail (watermarks, subtitles, filters, cropping).
A self-starter mentality. You don't wait to be told what to film or edit—you're always thinking ahead to next week's content calendar, looking for stories that need to be told, filming, and polishing content for publication.
Requirements:
Proven experience, with a portfolio showcasing events and candid video work.
Strong editing skills with proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments under pressure.
Familiarity with social media formats and content needs.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
