What you’ll be able to do:
Thermal System Attribute Engineer - positions offered by Ford Motor Company (Dearborn, Michigan). Note, this is a hybrid position whereby the employee will work both from home and from the aforementioned worksite. Hence, the employee must live within a reasonable commuting distance from the aforementioned worksite. Analyze test data to ensure vehicles are exhibiting expected behavior and passing all requirements. Responsible for overall vehicle thermal system sign-off including Wind Tunnel Testing and Road Development. Work with the propulsion (ICE/xEV) teams to develop key parameters of calibration as ii relates to Climate Control. Work with Dual Automatic Temperature Control team on calibration development. Work with hardware teams to ensure components and sub-systems meets requirements to deliver expected climate performance. Troubleshoot any short falls in performance and propose solutions and document/incorporate lessons learned. Understand and apply Thermal/Cabin System CAE tools (i.e. NC, Heater, and battery thermal simulations). Coordinate vehicle testing to support Program Timing Milestones. Plan and execute Vehicle Wind Tunnel testing and Supplier data analysis. Plan and execute Vehicle Road Trip testing. Ensure all the climate control comfort strategies are implemented in programs as applicable. Domestic Travel Required up to 20%.

Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering or related field and 3 years of experience in the job offered or related occupation. 3 years of experience with each of the following skills is required: 1. Utilizing thermal systems hardware, including traditional AC systems (fixed, scroll, and variable compressors). 2. Data visualization, including utilizing 3D visualization tools, and presenting data to senior engineers and management. 3. Collaborating with design engineers to integrate thermal considerations into the design process, providing thermal design guidance and recommendations to improve performance while balancing other system performance. 2 years of experience with the following skill is required: 1. Translating design requirements into functional specifications. 1 year of experience with each of the following skills is required: 1. Working with automotive climate system components and operation such as the AC compressor (electronic, variable speed, fixed), evaporator assembly, and vehicle heater core. 2. Communicating statistical and technical topics to non-technical business partners (purchasing or program management). 6 months of experience with each of the following skills is required: 1. Leveraging the use of data acquisition systems (ATI Vision or CANape or ETAS INCA) to analyze system behavior and utilize data to optimize system performance. 2. Developing detailed vehicle test plans based on specific system requirements and conducts vehicle instrumentation set up and testing including vehicle thermocouples, pressure transducers, and data acquisition systems via OBDII, and Vehicle CAN Networks. 3. Wind Tunnel and Dynamometer Testing including leveraging test facility experiences to create test plans for specific real-world conditions including ambient temperature, humidity levels, and solar loading. 4. Analyzing thermal and climate system test data to identify areas for improvement.
We are offering a salary of $109,512.00 - $164,372.16/yr.
