Why this role matters
Your craft turns welded assemblies into precision railcar bodies. As a Thermal Straightening Specialist, you’ll use heat/cold techniques to bring carbon and stainless steel structures into tight tolerance—so every door lines up, every panel fits, and every coach performs.
Is this you?
- Comfortable reading manufacturing drawings and translating them into exact dimensions and tolerances?
- Skilled with tools like straightedges, tape measures, and templates to verify accuracy?
- Experienced—or eager to grow—in heat induction or flame straightening?
- Known for documenting work clearly and clocking labor hours accurately?
- Committed to safety and confident using hand tools, power tools, induction machines, and welding equipment?
- Reliable at meeting quality standards, schedules, and labor targets with minimal oversight?
What you’ll tackle
- Straighten welded car body assemblies via thermal or cold methods to meet dimensional specs.
- Validate measurements against drawings; correct issues using defined repair procedures.
- Complete work orders and quality records without missing a detail.
- Help maintain a safe, healthy environment by following PPE and safety protocols.
What you’ll need
- High school diploma or GED—or a comparable mix of education and manufacturing experience (painting or related materials included).
- Basic English proficiency to collaborate with teammates, vendors, and partners.
- Ability to read, write, and follow simple instructions, memos, and technical docs.
- Math fluency: whole numbers, fractions, decimals; compute rate/ratio/percent; interpret bar graphs.
Your schedule
Monday–Thursday, 5:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Physical realities
- Some work occurs in non-climate-controlled areas.
- Regular standing, walking, sitting, stair-climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and frequent hand/tool use.
- Frequent verbal communication; occasional odor detection.
- Lift/move up to 40 lbs.
- Vision: near and distance, color recognition, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Base hourly range (Lexington, NC): $19.00–$21.38. Final pay may vary based on budget, experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
