Responsibilities
  • Be proficient in requirements of AMS2750, AMS2772 and related customer heat treatment specifications. 
  • Review and approve furnace related paperwork such as probe checks, calibrations and surveys
  • Review and approve thermocouple and equipment related paperwork such as calibrations.
  • Maintain thermal paperwork to standards of AMS2750.
  • Monitor past performance of furnaces to help predict future behavior and drive additional maintenance or validation actions proactively.
  • React to and track thermal deviations as they occur, working with other metallurgists for product decisions and actions. 
  • Walk through heat treat departments daily, engaging with operators on issues or questions.
  • Create opportunities & modules (toolbox talks) for further training with heat treat operators in addition to the yearly NADCAP training. 
  • Develop heat treat supervisor training, including continuing education with the goal of enabling supervisors to make immediate and accurate decisions based on reaction plans to assist their operators and reduce off-hour calls.
  • Track maintenance performance on furnace actions, including on-time performance of requirements and validating that furnaces are kept on schedule and in compliance with AMS2750 and customer requirements.
  • Validate furnace cycles, develop sample plan criteria for weekly/daily checks.
  • Continue implementation of C3 Data software for thermal paperwork/action management. 
  • Act as first line of defense for thermal issues with support of other metallurgists as well. 
  • Work with production on racking photo refinement and enhancement as needed.  Consult with other metallurgists on new product and new process development in heat treat. 
  • Become proficient in pyrometry and furnace operation, including maintenance related actions on furnaces.
  • Lead NADCAP HT Audit preparation and meetings. 
  • Review and maintain heat treat and pyrometry related TM and MWI documents, making improvements and updates as needed. 
  • Assist production with heat treat traceability, log sheet and collection plan related issues.
  • Manage furnace recorder semi-annual backup as outlined in MWI-MET-003.  Maintain digital files and organization. 
  • Other duties as assigned 


Qualifications

BaBasic Qualifications

 

FoFor this position to be successful, the incumbent should have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering from an accredited institution, or a minimum 8 years of metallurgical manufacturing experience in aluminum, titanium, steel, and nickel-base wrought products. 
  • This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), which requires U.S. person status. ITAR defines U.S. person as an U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. ‘Green Card Holder’), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

  • A high degree of interpersonal skills to motivate and influence others, including those not under their direct supervision. 
  • Demonstrated ability of problem solving, systems thinking, project management, and team building. 
  • The ability to work in a fast-pace, multiple deadline-oriented work environment. 
  • Expertise in titanium processing and development, as well as the processing-properties-microstructure relationships of titanium and/or aluminum
  • Experience with Oracle.

 

WWorking Conditions

ThThis position involves moderate exposure to risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Work is normally performed in an interior work environment. While not exposed to hazardous materials, this position requires wearing full PPE to protect from mobile equipment and hot materials when on the shop floor. 

 

ThThis position requires light physical activity, such as walking, sitting, and standing for extended periods of time, as well as some lifting.  

ThThis position also requires a willingness to be responsive outside of normal working hours for support.
