As the Technical Lead Thermal Engineer in our global R&D organization, you will be reporting to the Director of Thermal and Fluidics in the mechanical engineering team. Any industry experience is welcome to apply, but most common applicants are from medical, automotive, aerospace, and the semiconductor industries. We are looking for innovative ways to control thermal environments in our complex diagnostic instruments. We need this leader to bring innovative ideas and critical problem-solving skills to our highly tenured technical team.
Your role:
You will drive engineering changes with a thorough understanding of Siemens internal quality procedures.
You will be responsible for the quality of designs and work delivered to the sub-system and integration teams
You will schedule resources on all approved projects with the required capacity and skillsets needed to develop our next generation portfolio of products
You will ensure all project deliverables are in conformance with established policies and procedures
You will lead technical and root cause problem solving by applying concepts, techniques and process’ within the scope of thermal and environmental management
You will drive compliance of all verification and testing procedures within project deliverables
You will constantly coordinate activities within a complex organization of sub-system teams and functions including electrical, systems, reliability, software, firmware, etc
You will lead continuous improvement and design optimization efforts
You will make personnel changes in response to sub-system long range planning sessions
You will create procedural synergies across multiple sites and be required to travel across them on occasion (Tarrytown, NY and Glasgow, DE). We employ a hybrid work environment with work on site and from home based on business need.
Your expertise
You possess expertise in thermal management concepts, components, and environmental engineering for highly complex instrumentation and equipment
You have a solid grasp of thermal engineering principles, including convection, conduction, and their practical applications
You are knowledgeable about energy conservation and acoustic design considerations
You have extensive design experience with thermal hardware, including thermoelectric devices (Peltier chips), heaters, cooled compartments, and thermal sensors
You will understand the value of simulation and how to close simulation gaps by defining experiments
You will have an extensive history of building best practices in designs, instrumentation, lab procedures, analytical tools, and documentation
You will have experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, and uncertainty analysis
You have a strong history of building effective engineering teams and organizational structures
You can apply a systems mindset to team designs
You will have built a successful network of outsource design partners
You will have a history of building intellectual property and innovation
You will have a successful track record to new product development projects
You will have exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies
You will have proficiency in 3D CAD (NX preferred) and PLM systems
You will have working knowledge of DfSS methodologies
You will have a strong understanding of manufacturing methods including plastic injection molding, sheet metal, castings, machining, etc.
Required skills and education to have for the success of this role
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related required.
10-15+ years’ experience with the design and development of complex instrumentation. Medical device preferred, but not required. Willing to consider other regulated industries.
Informal or formal leadership experience a plus but not necessary. Equivalent project management experience within small to mid-sized engineering teams should apply.
Good communication skills, written and oral at all levels of complex organizations
Work Authorization: Permanent work authorization in the U.S. is required.

The base pay range for this position is:
Min $128,480 - Max $192,720Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
If this is a commission eligible position the commission eligibility will be in accordance with the terms of the Company's plan. Commissions are based on individual performance and/or company performance.
