Muschlitz Excavating, LLC, a leader in the Heavy Civil Industry, is looking to add a Surveyor to its accomplished team. The Surveyor is responsible for providing accurate layout, measurement, and verification services for construction projects. This role supports field operations by establishing control points, verifying grades and alignments, performing as‑built surveys, and ensuring work is completed in accordance with project plans, specifications, and applicable regulations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Perform construction layout for site work, utilities, roadways, structures, and earthwork
Establish horizontal and vertical control using GPS, total station, and conventional surveying methods
Verify grades, elevations, alignments, and slopes throughout all phases of construction
Conduct as‑built surveys and provide accurate field data for record drawings
Interpret construction plans, specifications, and survey data
Communicate layout information clearly to project managers, superintendents, foremen
Maintain accurate field notes, survey records, and electronic data files
Assist with quantity verification, progress tracking, and troubleshooting discrepancies
Coordinate with engineers, inspectors, and subcontractors as required
Maintain surveying equipment and ensure proper calibration and care
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree or coursework in surveying, civil engineering, or construction preferred
Previous experience in construction surveying, preferably in heavy civil, excavation, or site development
Proficiency with GPS and total station equipment
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
Strong math, measurement, and problem‑solving skills
Ability to work independently in the field with minimal supervision
Strong communication and teamwork skills
Physical Requirements
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Ability to walk uneven terrain and active construction sites
Ability to lift and carry surveying equipment
Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb as required
Work Environment
Active construction sites with exposure to heavy equipment, noise, and environmental conditions
Compliance with all company safety policies and PPE requirements is mandatory

Experience with GPS machine control
Knowledge of earthwork, utility, and roadway construction practices
Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar software
