Position: Squash & Fitness Assistant 
Located: Charlottesville, VA 22901
Position Status: Part-time, non-exempt
Reports to: Director of Club Operations-YPQ
Compensation: $15-$17/hr
Hours Per Week: 30+(summer), 20 (school year)
Start Date for Position: May 16, 2025
 
 
 
Summary: This position is responsible for following and assisting in Squash practice plans, preparing and implementing developmentally appropriate programs and activities, and facilitating and assisting in individual practice plans. The Squash & Fitness Assistant is responsible for ensuring the emotional and physical safety of groups comprised of a minimum of 5 to 15 members. The Squash & Fitness Assistant is responsible for delivering the optimal Club experience for all members, focusing on the mission and core values of Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia through developing healthy and supportive relationships with all Club members, and modeling academic success, healthy lifestyles, and good character and leadership with youth. 
 
What You’ll Do:
  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Priority Outcomes (Healthy & Well-being, Academic Success, Character & Leadership, and Life & Workforce Readiness) and promotes program participation.
  • Facilitate practices and activities indoors and outdoors with a minimum of 5 to 15 members ranging from ages of Kindergarten through 12th grade.
  • Provide appropriate supervision by being vigilant of members in program areas, monitoring equipment and supplies
  • Set clear boundaries with members by enforcing Club rules and policies and ensuring compliance while fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Enforce all safety precautions and ensure that equipment is maintained in an appropriate manner
  • Continually monitor and supervise the safety and behavior of members
  • Report concerns relating to the members, families, staff or facilities to Unit Director, Squash Coordinator & Fitness Specialist, or Lead Program Coordinator
  • Maintain positive relationships with members and their parents and/or guardians
  • Mediate mild to medium behavior issues with confidence while providing guidance and role modeling
  • Participate in special programs and/or events as requested
  • Oversee program area clean up and ensure a clean area at the end of practice sessions and program sessions
  • Transport members (via Club vehicles) to occasional tournaments and community court events on weekdays/weekends
  • Be available to assist and supervise all practice sessions and program sessions
  • Create and support opportunities, systems, and expectations that promote a human-centered organizational culture
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
 
 
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Youth development experience with kids ages 5-18 preferred
  • Ability and willingness to learn Squash and other racquet sports
  • Coaching experience preferred but not required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with young people, parents, and community members
  • Ability to motivate youth in a consistent and constructive manner while maintaining a positive environment
 
 
 
 
Education and Certifications:
 
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Minimum 3 years of driving experience with a clean driving record
  • CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to acquire certification upon hire
 
 
Physical Requirements and Work Conditions:
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Exposure to indoor and outdoor work environments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to be effective in an environment with varying levels of noise throughout the day
  • Ability to drive Club vehicles occasionally to transport members
