Job Summary:

The Solar Technician (S1) is responsible for performing routine preventive maintenance on utility-scale solar PV systems, including inverter stations, combiner boxes, and weather stations, to include diagnosing and troubleshooting system issues using SCADA and on-site testing tools.

Essential Functions:

· Routine Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance tasks on solar panels, inverters, racking, and tracking systems under supervision. Ensure all work is conducted safely and in compliance with company policies and procedures.

· Work Order Management: Accurately record all maintenance activities in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), including work order creation, updates, and closure.

· Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout procedures, and safe work practices to minimize risks.

· Reporting: Assist in preparing reports on maintenance activities, including documenting issues encountered, solutions implemented, and recommendations for future work.

· Learning & Development: Engage in on-the-job training to develop technical skills and knowledge in solar plant operations. Participate in company-provided training programs to advance to higher levels within the solar technician career path.

· Equipment Handling: Assist in handling and organizing tools, equipment, and materials required for maintenance tasks. Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and stored.

· Team Collaboration: Work closely with higher-level technicians and the Site Lead to complete tasks efficiently and effectively. Follow instructions and seek guidance when needed to ensure safe and accurate execution of work.

· Physical Work: Perform physical tasks such as lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying items up to 50 lbs. Work in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Unrestricted driver license in good standing
  • Must be skilled in at least one of the following: power plant operations, electrical and mechanical equipment maintenance; substation maintenance
  • Must be competent in power plant safety protocols
  • Must be competent in electrical safety
  • Knowledge of and experience with the use of hand and power tools
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally travel to and from job sites as assigned, including supporting other sites
  • Routine operation of a computer/tablet and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
  • Frequent oral and written communications
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Complete all required training in a satisfactory manner and timeframe
  • Must be adaptive to new technologies and methods
  • Must take ownership of responsibilities and look beyond the work task, with regards to discovering new opportunities for corrective work

Preferred:

  • Associate degree in engineering or related field from an accredited US school other than correspondence or internet
  • Technical certification in Electrical Technology, Renewable Energy, or related field
  • OSHA 30 certification and NFPA 70E training
  • Knowledge of SMA, Sungrow, or similar inverter platforms
