Summary 

The Solar Designer is responsible for providing technical expertise for commercial solar installations, including solar rooftop, ground mount, and battery storage projects. You will collaborate with project managers and electrical foremen to drive the engineering process, identifying and solving issues to ensure the successful completion of each project. 

 

What You'll Do:  

  • Review and generate technical drawings, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all codes and product requirements. 
  • Oversee design sets through various stages (Interconnection, Permit, Construction) while coordinating with the design team to ensure accuracy at each phase. 
  • Adhere to all relevant codes, including NEC, IFC, and IBC, throughout the design process. 
  • Evaluate and recommend products (e.g., racking, inverters, modules) based on the project’s needs and their potential impact on the overall design. 
  • Meet with project managers and electrical foremen to assess scope and identify potential project obstacles. Proactively resolve issues during the project lifecycle. 

What You'll Need for Success:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering is preferred 
  • Minimum 3+ years in the commercial solar field, with at least 3 years of professional experience in commercial electrical engineering and design. 
  • NABCEP Certification is desired 
  • Strong understanding of solar photovoltaic, energy storage, and microgrid applications. 
  • Proficient in AutoCAD and other BIM software. 
  • In-depth knowledge of NEC, IFC, and IBC codes. 
  • Familiarity with common solar energy and storage products. 
  • Ability to read and create detailed engineering drawings. 
  • Understanding of project schedules and timelines. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, along with proven organizational, analytical, and leadership abilities.
