Job Title: Senior Hypersonic Aerothermal Test Engineer

Location: Arnold, AFB- Tullahoma, TN (On-Site)

Responsibilities:

  • Test Planning & Execution:
    • Lead the complete test inquiry, planning, and execution process for hypersonic ground tests in arcjet test facilities, ensuring alignment with government and customer requirements.
    • Advise and assist government and customers in assessing test conditions and addressing test cell/test article interactions.
    • Develop requirements, test objectives, measures of performance, and success criteria to support the evaluation of hypersonic weapon systems.
    • Lead Technical, Safety, and Readiness Review Boards.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting:
    • Perform in-depth analysis of test data to meet analysis objectives.
    • Prepare quick-look reports and detailed technical reports to document test planning, data processing, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Modeling & Simulation:
    • Utilize commercial and in-house simulation codes and analysis tools to support testing activities.
  • Technical Support & Expertise:
    • Provide senior aerothermal test engineering expertise in areas such as aerothermal testing and analysis, Thermal Protection System (TPS) ablation, Fluid-thermal-structural interaction (FTSI) modeling and simulation, computational heat transfer, optical diagnostic techniques, and statistical methods.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing work to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
    • Collaborate effectively with senior staff and peers, communicating clearly and concisely in both oral and written formats.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct experience in hypersonic flight or ground testing.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret-level security clearance.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Physics, Mechanical Engineering, or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Advanced degree and background or coursework in areas related to aerothermal testing, TPS ablation, FTSI modeling, computational heat transfer, or optical diagnostics.
  • Proficiency with Scientific Python (primary code) and Matlab (secondary).
  • Experience with statistical analysis techniques and data-driven decision making.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience fostering cooperation and teamwork with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong adherence to safety and security protocols in a test environment.

Security Clearance:

The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
