Position Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled, detail-oriented Ophthalmic Photographer to join our dynamic, high-volume retina practice. The successful candidate will work directly with our vitreoretinal surgeon and clinical team to capture and manage high-quality diagnostic images using state-of-the-art imaging technologies. This individual plays a critical role in patient care, supporting diagnostic accuracy and surgical planning through the delivery of precise ophthalmic imaging.
Key Responsibilities:
· Retinal Imaging:
o Perform a full range of retinal imaging procedures including:
§ Fundus photography (color, red-free, autofluorescence)
§ Fluorescein angiography (FA)
§ Indocyanine green angiography (ICG)
§ Optical coherence tomography (OCT and OCT-A)
§ Widefield and ultra-widefield imaging (e.g., Optos)
§ External and slit lamp photography
· Patient Interaction:
o Prepare and educate patients for imaging procedures
o Obtain relevant medical and ocular history as needed
o Ensure patient comfort and safety during imaging sessions
· Collaboration:
o Work closely with the vitreoretinal surgeon to prioritize urgent cases and provide timely imaging
o Communicate effectively with the clinical team regarding patient status, imaging results, and workflow
· Image Management & Documentation:
o Upload, organize, and maintain image records in the electronic medical record (EMR) system
o Accurately label and annotate images according to protocol
o Ensure timely delivery of images for review by physicians
· Equipment Maintenance:
o Perform daily calibration and maintenance of all imaging equipment
o Troubleshoot basic technical issues and coordinate service when needed
· Compliance & Safety:
o Follow infection control and safety protocols
o Ensure compliance with HIPAA and clinic privacy standards
o Adhere to clinical guidelines for contrast agents during angiography
Qualifications:
· Required:
o High school diploma or equivalent
o Minimum 1-2 years of experience in ophthalmic imaging, preferably in a retina practice
o Proficiency with imaging platforms such as Heidelberg, Zeiss, Optos, Topcon, or equivalent
o Strong understanding of retinal anatomy and common vitreoretinal diseases
o Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a high-volume clinical setting
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Fluorescein angiography (FA)
· Preferred:
o Certification by the Ophthalmic Photographers' Society (OPS)
o Certification by the International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO)
o Experience with EMR systems (e.g., NextGen, Epic, ModMed)
o BLS certification
Work Environment:
· Fast-paced retina specialty clinic with frequent urgent cases
· Direct interaction with patients of all ages, often with significant visual impairment
· Standing and walking for extended periods; ability to lift imaging equipment as needed
· Exposure to low-light environments for image capture
Schedule & Benefits:
