Description

Under the general supervision of the Director of Surveying & Tax Map, this position involves performing detailed reviews of legal descriptions, surveys, and subdivisions, editing GIS parcels, and supporting county projects through drafting and deed recording.

Examples of Duties

1. Conduct research and review existing legal descriptions for compliance with Franklin County Conveyance Standards using modern platforms such as Simplifile, email communication, and in-person interactions; ensure accuracy and adherence to standards in all conveyance processes; maintain up-to-date records and documentation for legal descriptions.

2. Analyze and review new surveys, condominiums, and subdivisions to ensure they meet Minimum Standards for Boundary Surveys and Franklin County Conveyance Standards; update records and documentation to reflect accurate boundary information. 

3. Revise and update the GIS system to ensure consistency and accuracy in parcel fabric from legacy data; support the team in migrating legacy data to current schemas and formats; implement new layers and models to enhance GIS functionality. 

4. Edit GIS parcels for parcel splits, combinations, condominiums, and subdivisions based on information received from the Auditor’s Office; ensure all edits are accurately reflected in the GIS system; maintain detailed records of changes and updates to parcel data.

5. Record deeds on behalf of the county, ensuring proper documentation and filing; address structures in unincorporated areas of Franklin County; perform scanning and maintenance of LBRS Centerline data; ensure all records are accurately maintained and accessible for future reference. 

6. Perform other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Possession of a bachelor’s degree in geography, geographic information systems, surveying, or a related field; and
  • Over one (1) years up to and including two (2) years of relevant GIS, engineering, or surveying experience.
  • Any combination of education, training and/or experience equivalent to the minimum qualifications stated above.
