Nature of Work
The fundamental reasons this classification exists are to provide customer service and technical support to the GIS/Mapping Division of the Montgomery County Revenue Commissioner’s Office. Classification incumbents serve as the first point of contact for customers seeking information concerning tax mapping and perform entry-level to moderately complex technical duties in tax mapping when not actively assisting customers. The major work responsibilities may include: assisting the public, government agencies, real estate professionals, attorneys, and co-workers in researching parcel data and answering questions relating to real property ownership and assessment; and performing a variety of technical duties related to tax mapping. The Mapping Technician classification is distinguished from the Mapper classification in that the Mapping Technician spends the majority of the time providing customer service and performs less technically complex mapping duties. Supervision is provided by the GIS and Cadastral Mapping Manager.
