$97,500 - $199,500 USD yearly
Thermography (Thermal Imaging)
Description

This position is for an experienced hardware test engineer who will be responsible for system characterization (performance, power, airflow measurements) of Oracle Compute, Storage and Networking products at the rack and server/switch level in Oracle's Santa Clara 09 Labs, developing reports and communicating system characterization data to Oracle Systems Engineers and Multi-Cloud partners.. This position will also be responsible for assisting with environmental test engineering (ETE), transportation/package, acoustic, and energy efficiency testing.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Set up and configure servers or racks for testing according to a test plan.
  • Set up and operate test equipment for System Characterization testing.
    • Assemble test equipment and SKU hardware that matches the configuration to be deployed. The firmware and OS, BIOS settings and OS level settings will need to match the deployed configuration. All testing software (e.g. SPEC SERT, SPECpower, various benchmarks and stress test tools), need to be fully configured, and all testing hardware (e.g. power meters, temperature sensors, airflow monitors) need to be configured. This could involve both traditional AC powered servers, and newer busbar powered servers.
    • There may be some requirement for external equipment to support the unit under test (e.g. Infiniband switches, JBOD array, separate external GPU). This will need to be configured and determined how this is added to any measurement requirements.
    • Configure thermal test chambers as needed, Configure airflow measurement hardware to gather CFM data from the server SKU. Configure any liquid cooling measurements.
    • Any data gathered (fan speed, temperatures, airflow rate etc) must then be assembled and correlated, converted to the format that the DC owner requires for submission. Any changes or other relevant adjustments to testing from the documented procedures must be included in full.
  • Set up and operate test equipment for Environmental Test Engineering (ETE) and Transportation/Package testing including vibration tables, drop testers, environmental chambers.
  • Set up and operate test equipment for Energy Efficiency testing including power analyzers and temperature sensors.
  • Analyze test data, generate test reports, and communicate findings clearly to stakeholders.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering , electrical engineering, or a related field.
  • 6 - 10 years of hands-on experience in a high-tech engineering or lab environment is preferred.
  • Solid system administration skills. Able to configure a server from hardware all the way to gathering application benchmark data. Including specific benchmark tools for items such as NIC cards, flash devices, GPU and other sub-components. Able to run complex benchmark and compliance tools (e.g. SPEC SERT) in a client-server configuration.
  • Familiarity with server architecture and building blocks.
  • Some scripting background is preferred. Python/perl/shell scripting is very useful to be able to automate some of the data collection and syncronize data streams from multiple independent sources.
  • Some experience of Data Centre requirements, how systems are deployed, and the requirements needed in a DC and why they are important.
  • Able to follow complex third party testing requirements for server, including working on resolving test gaps and test substitutions as needed for Oracle hardware. Working with third party directly to resolve any test blockers and unique requirements.
  • Familiar with Environmental, Transportation, and Acoustic industry standards such as IEC 60068 series, ISO 7779, ASTM, and ISTA.
  • Familiar with Energy Efficiency standard ISO/IEC 21836:2020 and software such as SPEC SERT.
  • Experience with programming and operation of vibration tables, drop testers, environmental chambers, acoustic measurement equipment, wind tunnels, temperature sensors, and power analyzers.
  • Experience with rack servers and lab networking.
  • Experience with server rework and changes for CPUs, DIMMs, drives, and fans.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
