Description

Job Summary

Vertiv is seeking an experienced GRS Sr. Thermal Data Modeling Engineer to support the development of its global thermal rating tool. In this role, you will be working with a diverse team of engineers in creating and maintaining thermodynamic models of Vertiv’s HVAC products to support the global Sales and Design teams.

You will be the first contact point for AMER region support and daily operations.  This position will be based onsite at our Westerville, OH - Polaris location.

Responsibilities:

  • Review published literature for latest methods and correlations and implement them in code
  • Investigate convergence and accuracy issues in thermodynamic models and take corrective actions
  • Write detailed test plans for component/system testing to obtain data for model validation
  • Fine tune and calibrate thermal models against lab data following a scientific approach 
  • Create detailed project plans and lead the assigned projects to completion
  • Ensure Vertiv’s performance programs conform to AHRI and DOE requirements
  • Perform complex data analysis, properly document results, and prepare presentations 
  • Study new products and translate into modeling specifications for fast solving mathematical models of HVAC components such as evaporators, condensers, compressors, fluid connections, fans, pumps, etc., using physics-based equations
  • Debug stable algorithms to simulate performance of single/multi-circuit HVAC systems such as direct expansion air-cooled, water-cooled, chiller, pumped refrigeration etc.
  • Apply urgent bug fixes in case of blocking issues
  • Support development team in releasing and testing new functionalities 
  • Prioritize and understand urgency and importance of new requirements

Requirements:

  • Master Degree in energy / mechanical engineering or related science with strong expertise in thermodynamics. PhD will be considered a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in developing thermal models and heat transfer analysis of commercial HVAC systems and components
  • A proven track record of technical excellence in HVAC system modeling and simulation
  • Strong background in single and two-phase fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics
  • Deep understanding of the working of HVAC system and its components through extensive work experience
  • Coding and unit-testing skills using modern object-oriented programming languages like C#.Net
  • Practical Knowledge of numerical methods especially in the context of single and multi-dimension root solvers
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and a responsible team player
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and communication tools like MS Teams
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly 
  • Native American speaker or excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
