Development Engineer/Engineering Analyst

  

DESCRIPTION

This position will support the Project Development Manager (Gas) in various commercial and technical activities related to project development, evaluation, execution, budget and schedule. Additionally, the position supports the Southern Power project development strategy for new gas opportunities, both in the Southeast and in other markets.  While the focus for this role will be gas project development, this role could support the project execution phase as well. This role might also be utilized for other technologies (e.g. BESS, solar, etc.) depending on project workload. 

MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Supports the development of greenfield or brownfield gas projects and evaluation of projects that may be acquired as part of a project acquisition. 
  • Supports all phases of project development, including technical due diligence, business case development, risk assessment, and contract negotiations. 
  • Coordinates with internal teams and external partners, including business development, technical services, financial evaluation, transmission, environmental, operations, and third-party partners.

Education

  • A four-year degree is required with a preference for an engineering, finance, economics or accounting (or equivalent) discipline

Experience

  • At least five (5) years’ experience in some or all of the following areas: developing/executing (EPC) utility scale generation projects, electric system operations, generation O&M, generation engineering or project management is preferred.
  • Experience in gas development, evaluation, due diligence, or project execution is a plus, but aptitude, attitude, and agility are of primary importance.  
  • Experience in, and/or interacting with the following disciplines: engineering & construction, business development, project development, operations & maintenance, finance, accounting, procurement, environmental compliance, permitting, and transmission, is desired. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Project management skills are required. These skills include the ability to work across multiple organizations, lead a team toward a common objective with schedule deadlines, resolve problems and demonstrate clear, effective communication skills. 
  • Ability to identify project risks and mitigations, development of business cases for capital investment decisions 
  • Familiarity with EPC, power equipment, long-term service and maintenance contracts and contract negotiations.
  • Self-starter that works with a sense of urgency; works well in a team environment and maintains a positive attitude amid changing priorities.
