The Public Safety Criminal Justice and UAS/drone Director oversees two continuing education program areas: Criminal Justice and UAS/drone in-service training. This position is responsible for guiding the growth of a developing drone program while maintaining and advancing an established criminal justice program. We are seeking a candidate who is highly motivated, organized, approachable, and eager to share their knowledge and experience with students and community stakeholders. The director will play a key role in developing course content, implementing effective marketing strategies, meeting with agency stakeholders, and monitoring the overall success of these programs at the Emergency Services Training Center (ESTC).


  • This position may have occasional travel between campuses and for training. Occasional after hours may be required. 
  • This position requires face to face teaching. 

Essential Duties

  • Develop and manage class schedules; secure instructors; and oversee course logistics.
  • Maintain and monitor contracts, training records, registration sheets, rosters, and other required documentation in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure equipment and instructional resources are available, properly maintained, and in safe working order.
  • Manage supplies and instructional materials, including ordering, storage, and inventory control.
  • Review and approve lesson plans and course overviews to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Work with ESTC staff, establish operational procedures for specialized training areas (e.g., driving track, simulation rooms, drone flight operations, and weather assessments).
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and external partners to support effective program delivery and promote continuous improvement.
  • Assist in the development of marketing strategies to promote programs to prospective students, employers, and community stakeholders.
  • Monitor compliance with institutional policies, accreditation standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform other administrative duties necessary to support current and future program needs.
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

Required educational background:

  • High School Graduate or equivalent education
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Commitment to community college philosophy and student success

Required kind and number years of work experience:

  • Current or prior certification as a Criminal Justice Officer with the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission or the North Carolina Sheriff’s Training and Standards Commission.  Equivalent service as a Military Police Officer (U.S. Army, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Navy, or U.S. Space Force) will also be considered.

Required license or certificate:
  • A valid North Carolina Driver’s License or the ability to attain one upon hire.

Preferred Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards General Instructor Certificate.
  • Federal Aviation Administration Remote Pilot Certificate also known as the Part 107 license.
  • Drone instructor or drone program administrator with 2 years’ experience.
  • A minimum of five years teaching experience.
