Job Summary:

The CAD Manager / Engineer or Surveyor will be accountable for overseeing all aspects of the company's CAD infrastructure, standard policies, and use. This role ensures that CAD strategies align with the company's growth and efficiency needs. In addition to CAD management this role will split time as an Engineer or Surveyor. This role requires planning and design on public & private civil engineering or surveying projects while collaborating and mentoring within a team. The individual will carry out and complete multiple project assignments through all project phases.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

CAD Manager

  • Develop and implement a CAD strategy that balances efficiency, effectiveness, and cost, ensuring the company remains technologically competitive.
  • Evaluate and recommend CAD or related software purchases that align with business needs and integrate with existing systems. Maintain latest versions, access, and training.
  • Continuously manage CAD licensing and associated programs for optimization.
  • Regularly review, maintain, and enforce company CAD manual policies and procedures. Reinforce best practices often.
  • Manage company-wide CAD operations, ensuring team members are adequately trained to efficiently complete their designated assignments.
  • Train production new hires as part of the onboarding process. Assist in training for changes in CAD versions and associated software. Identify whether further training is required at any experience level across the various departments.
  • Ensure each office and department manager has systems in place to allow CAD to function efficiently.
  • Maintain a collaborative and healthy working relationship with the IT department.
  • Provide drafting instruction in both theory and process for company-wide elements, including storm, water, sanitary, grading tools, and other related topics.
  • Seek out training to assist in identifying opportunities to improve CAD workflows, tools, and standard methods.
  • Work with department managers to determine which programs/tools may result in the highest likelihood of increased production efficiency.
  • Work in a collaborative manner to lead company CAD Committee with the goal of bringing consistency, direction, knowledge sharing, and forward thinking for the entire company.

Engineer/Surveyor

  • Engineer is responsible for the engineering design and production including roadway corridors, site layout, grading operations, utility infrastructure, channels, and detention ponds. Responsible for the preparation and oversight of applicable reports, calculations, supporting documents, permit applications, and modeling programs.
  • Surveyor is responsible for construction, boundary, and topo surveys. Collects and reviews legal descriptions, survey plats, and other necessary documents. Competent in writing legal descriptions, ALTA surveys, subdivision plats, and construction calculations. Coordinates with field staff as needed.
  • Planning, scheduling, and coordinating work product through all project phases independently and on schedule. Including coordination of the project with review agencies and multiple project leads.
  • Review work from staff Engineers/Surveyors to ensure sound and accurate designs, plans, and reports that meet all applicable criteria, client or project goals, and the high standard of quality that the company demands. For Engineers this includes reviewing construction plans, cost estimates, calculations, models, and reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Act as a mentor and oversee staff engineer/surveyor's work product and coordinate work assignments. Provide meaningful direction, training, and guidance to younger staff to grow their knowledge and tool sets to build a strong team atmosphere and working relationships.
  • Attend occasional project meetings and may serve as an additional point of contact with clients, developers, contractors, and review agencies. Act as a liaison between other consultants on the project team from concept through construction (including RFI's and DCN's).

Required Skills/Abilities:

CAD Manager

  • Demonstrate experience in a similar CAD and C3D related role (preferred).
  • High level expertise in CAD functionality and ability to execute these tasks autonomously.
  • Sense of ownership and pride in one's performance and its impact on the company's success.
  • This role will not serve in a supervisory capacity; however, will support technical development of CAD users across the company.
  • To maintain quality, this individual will monitor compliance with standards. Also monitoring productivity and accuracy of CAD work, implementing process improvements where necessary.

Engineer/Surveyor

  • Engineer shall have strong technical expertise in the civil engineering design of Public Works or Private Land Development projects. Surveyor shall be competent executing various survey types and analyzing survey related documents.
  • Experience with regulatory agencies, with familiarity with federal, state, and local policies, and possess leadership skills to help grow the team.
  • Demonstrates strong understanding of project budgets, contracts, change orders, and schedules (preferred). Experience with project submittal processes.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D and associated design software. Survey experience with Trimble Business Center and GIS knowledge is a plus.
  • Advanced skillset of Microsoft Office products and communication tools.
  • Engineer shall have broad multi-disciplinary knowledge in civil engineering including land development, transportation, water resources, wastewater, structural, and geotechnical topics.
  • High level knowledge of discipline-related software programs and ability to interpret and summarize technical results and concepts.

Education/Experience:

  • Engineer: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university (preferred).
  • Surveyor: High School Diploma or GED (preferred).
  • Minimum of 4 years of applicable civil engineering or surveying experience.
