Position Summary
The Aerial Bucket Foreman is responsible for leading, coordinating, and performing elevated work involving tree trimming, line clearance, utility maintenance, and related field operations using aerial bucket trucks and associated equipment. The Foreman ensures all work is performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards, regulatory requirements, and established safety protocols. This position provides on-site direction to crew members, conducts safety briefings, oversees equipment operation, and ensures high-quality field performance.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Leadership & Crew Management
- Lead, supervise, and coordinate daily activities of aerial bucket crews.
- Assign tasks, monitor crew performance, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and on-the-job training for new and existing crew members.
- Conduct daily job briefings and communicate work expectations, timelines, and safety requirements.
- Promote teamwork, accountability, and a positive work environment.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce adherence to OSHA, ANSI Z133, DOT, and company safety policies at all times.
- Conduct job-site hazard assessments and implement appropriate control measures.
- Ensure proper use of PPE, fall protection, and all required safety equipment.
- Maintain safe work zones, including traffic control setups and barricade placement.
- Identify and report safety concerns, near-misses, and incidents; assist with investigations.
- Lead by example to reinforce a safety-first culture.
Operations & Work Planning
- Operate aerial bucket trucks and related tools to perform trimming, line clearance, pole work, or utility maintenance.
- Evaluate job sites to determine equipment, manpower, and material needs.
- Coordinate with supervisors, utility representatives, and customers regarding job scope and progress.
- Review work orders, maps, and utility diagrams to guide daily operations.
- Adjust job plans to address changing site conditions or emergent hazards.
Equipment, Tools & Vehicle Management
- Operate, inspect, and maintain bucket trucks, chippers, chainsaws, rigging gear, and other field equipment.
- Ensure equipment is used properly and safely by all crew members.
- Report equipment deficiencies, schedule repairs, and maintain accurate usage logs.
- Oversee daily truck inspections, fluid checks, and pre-trip/post-trip documentation.
- Ensure tools and materials are secured, organized, and properly stored.
Quality Control & Work Standards
- Inspect completed work to ensure it meets company and utility specifications.
- Provide feedback and corrective direction when work does not meet standards.
- Ensure job sites are cleaned, restored, and left in safe condition after work is completed.
Administrative & Reporting Duties
- Complete required documentation, including work logs, timesheets, and safety reports.
- Maintain communication with supervisors regarding daily operations, concerns, and project updates.
- Track material usage and inventory needs for upcoming work.
- Assist with training records, compliance forms, and other administrative tasks.
Emergency & After-Hours Response
- Respond to storm-related outages and emergency utility situations as required.
- Lead crews in high-pressure environments to safely restore service and remove hazards.
- Maintain readiness to work extended or irregular hours during emergencies

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in tree trimming, line clearance, or utility field work
Skills and Competencies
- Prior crew-lead or supervisory experience preferred
- Valid driver’s license; CDL Class B strongly preferred
- Certification in bucket truck operation or line-clearance arborist (preferred)
- Ability to pass company background check, drug test, and physical evaluation
Preferred
- Strong knowledge of safe aerial bucket operation and elevated work practices
- Understanding of line-clearance procedures and vegetation-management standards
- Ability to read and interpret work orders, maps, and utility specifications
- Skilled in chainsaw operation, rigging, trimming, and cutting techniques
This role is based in an office environment with occasional remote work flexibility. The position may require
limited travel.
